Welcome to another edition of the Ave Maria University Weekly Recap, where we look back on the highlights of the past week’s campus events, including the Spring Band Concert, Theology on Tap, and our Celebration of Fr. Rick!
The AMU band held their Spring Concert, “The Journey!” this past week. While showcasing their musical skill, the band got to honor their seniors in a final performance. The concert produced a great turnout, and we’re so proud of all their hard work for our student community!
The AMU softball team took a huge victory in the finale of their Sun Conference series against the Florida Memorial Lions, with a 6-2 win. The Gyrenes were down in the series finale at 1-0 after three and a half innings. They took the lead in the bottom of the fourth and added another three runs in the bottom of the fifth. AMU’s pitching played a major role in the Gyrene win. Gina Gallegos did not allow an earned run in three innings of work. When Kaedyn Sutton came on, she did not allow a run until the seventh, picking up her seventh win of the season. Good luck to our Gyrenes as they take on their next series competition!
This past weekend marked Senior Day for the AMU baseball team as they took on the Keiser Seahawks in an exciting match-up. They may have lost the first game, but came back to win in the series finale 10-5. The Gyrenes played a resilient game and held steady to secure their win. At the plate, AMU drew 10 walks, the most in a game this season. Senior Harrison Rossi drew three of those walks, which is a career-high for him. The Gyrenes are now tied with the Florida Memorial Lions for sixth place in the SUN Conference. We wish them the best of luck as they continue!
Fr. Rick, chaplain and head of Campus Ministry, is leaving AMU to serve the Campus Ministry of Marian University in Indiana. Campus Ministry hosted a farewell party to honor him and thank him for his contributions to the mission and community of AMU. We’ll miss you, Fr. Rick!
This past Wednesday was the AMU Art Club's first annual art show. The theme was “Based on a Story,” featuring over 70 pieces of amazing artwork. Faculty judges Dr. Schnepp, Dr. Kelly, and Mrs. Curley did an excellent job in choosing the winners and honorable mentions. We can’t wait to see the talent that will come next year!
