Advent is not primarily a penitential season but secondarily it is. Primarily, it is a time to focus our hearts on christ's arrival at the end of time and at Christmas.
Did Joseph want to do God's will in the way it unfolded? We might wish that things were different in our lives.
The message of Christmas is that we can't just keep it to ourselves, we have to give it away. Like the Magi, we are called to bring our gifts and service to the lord.
