It is the policy of AMU Counseling Services to support all students, staff and faculty in dealing with a student mental health emergency. Students in crisis need prompt attention. AMU Counseling Services offers individual counseling, support services, resource information, and referral assistance concerning matters related to depression, anxiety, grief and loss, personal and family relationships, stress management, eating disorders and substance abuse, as well as physical health needs. Please direct any questions regarding this policy to Student Affairs, which is located on the second floor of the Student Union, or call (239) 280-2540.

The first contact will be to University staff on-campus at the time, as designated in the above chart.
The primary role of the campus clinician is to assist the University staff at the scene, and whenever appropriate conduct an on-campus intervention.
Should it be necessary to ensure student safety, the campus clinician or a law enforcement officer can make arrangements for placement at a local mental health crisis clinic.
When university staff on-call determines that a student should see a counselor the next day, please leave a voicemail message at 239-280-2540 and send an email message to student.affairs@avemaria.edu to inform AMU Counseling Services that a student in crisis needs a walk-in time and a counselor will contact the student to schedule the best time for the meeting.
