Adaptive Services

Students requesting services to aid their personal disability must meet with the ASO Counselor within the first two weeks of the semester. Ave Maria University will adhere to all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines with respect to providing reasonable physical and academic accommodations for the purpose of affording equal access and opportunity to qualified individuals with a documented disability. This meeting is crucial because each student's accommodations are prepared on an individual and flexible basis, to be provided in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Documentation of the disability must be submitted along with the "Request for Accommodations" form to the Adaptive Services Office (ASO) two weeks prior to the start of classes. It is the responsibility of each student with a disability to make his or her needs known at the start of the semester and to provide appropriate documentation in order for the University to help meet the needs for the following types of support:

• Note takers
• Extended time on tests (time and a half)
• Isolated testing environment
• Alternative format of text
• Ability to record lectures
• Instruction in study strategies
• Confidential interview and record management
• Counselor assistance to facilitate the provision of applicable accommodations

Initial Consultation and Form Collection:

Students seeking Housing Accommodations must schedule a meeting with the Director of Adaptive Services to receive the necessary forms, which need to be completed by their current medical professional.

Submission Deadlines:

Fall Semester Request Deadline:

Returning Students must submit their completed forms by February 28th at 5:00 PM.

Incoming Students need to initiate contact, discuss their needs, and submit their completed forms by June 1st at 5:00 PM.

Spring Semester Request Deadline:

Returning Students must submit their completed forms by October 1st at 5:00 PM.

Incoming Students need to initiate contact, discuss their needs, and submit their completed forms by November 30th at 5:00 PM.

Late Applications:

Students can still apply for housing accommodation after these deadlines. However, the committee responsible for reviewing these requests will convene only once during the summer. If housing accommodation is approved late and no appropriate housing is available, the approved student will be placed on a waitlist. Housing openings for waitlisted students during the academic year cannot be guaranteed but will be allocated based on the order of approval.

The HATS (Hidden-Assets-Skills-Talents) Scholarship supports qualified students, diagnosed with a designated learning disability, with an annual scholarship grant toward tuition.

Candidates for this scholarship must:

1. Be admitted to the University as a first-time freshman.
2. Be diagnosed with a designated learning disability as determined by the Adaptive Services office.
3. Demonstrate a financial need as determined by the University Office of Financial Aid.

Renewal

The scholarship is renewable for a second, third, and fourth year providing that the recipient continues to:

1. Maintain full-time status at Ave Maria University.
2. Remain in good standing with the Office of Student Life.
3. Maintain a GPA that demonstrates academic progress toward earning a degree at Ave Maria University.
