AVE MARIA, Fla., Oct. 29, 2025 – October 27-November 1, 2025, marks the Jubilee of World Education in Rome. The event was organized in conjunction with the commemoration on October 28 of the 60th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council’s promulgation of the Declaration of Christian Education, “Gravissimum Educationis.”

The highpoint of these activities came with Pope Leo XIV’s promulgation of a new Apostolic Letter on Catholic education, titled “Disegnare Nuove Mappe di Speranza” (‘Drawing New Maps of Hope’). The document includes the declaration of St. John Henry Newman (with St. Thomas Aquinas) as the “co-patron saint of the mission of Catholic education.”

For an initial summary and analysis of the key teachings of this new papal letter by Ave Maria University’s provost, Dr. Roger Nutt, as well as Pope Leo XIV’s commentary on the importance of the legacy of St. John Henry Newman for Catholic education and how he can inspire hope for the future of Catholic education, please read “A Reason to Hope: Pope Leo XIV has Made St. John Henry Newman Co-Patron of the Mission of Catholic Education.”
