About This Event
Come hang out with Entomology Club and see what actually shows up after dark.
We’re setting up a moth light on campus — a 250-watt mercury vapor bulb plus extra blue lights, the same setup entomologists use to pull in night-flying insects. Moths, beetles, and a bunch of other stuff you almost never see during the day all end up on one sheet, so it’s the easiest way to watch a lot of biodiversity in one spot.
It has to be late. Insects really start coming in once it’s fully dark, usually a couple of hours after sunset, so we’re running it 10 p.m.–12 a.m. Wear long sleeves and pants so you get fewer bites, bring a jacket and maybe a flashlight, and come for as long as you want. No experience needed — just show up and look.
