Additional Resources for Fraudulent Online Postings
Be aware of fraudulent job postings and scams. The Office of Career Services works diligently to screen all job postings, but students should always verify the legitimacy of any opportunity. Report any suspicious postings to Career Services immediately.
Exploding Offers
Ave Maria University discourages the use of exploding offers that pressure students into making hasty decisions. We believe students should have adequate time to evaluate job offers and make informed decisions about their careers. We recommend giving students at least two weeks to consider an offer.
Internship and Job Offer Guidelines
All internship and job offers should comply with federal and state labor laws. Paid internships must meet minimum wage requirements, and unpaid internships must meet the Department of Labor's criteria for educational internships. All positions should provide meaningful learning experiences for students.
Third Party Recruiters
Third party recruiters and staffing agencies must disclose their client companies and the nature of available positions. They must also comply with all NACE principles and Ave Maria University policies. Career Services reserves the right to limit access for third party recruiters.
Handshake
Handshake is our primary platform for connecting employers with students. All employers must create a verified Handshake account to post jobs, schedule interviews, and register for career fairs. Our team reviews all employer accounts and job postings to ensure quality opportunities for our students.
NACE and Equal Employment Opportunity
Ave Maria University adheres to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Principles for Ethical Professional Practice. All employers must comply with Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) guidelines and may not discriminate based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, disability, or veteran status.
