Program Overview

Our online MBA program offers six areas of concentration, Management, Accounting, Communications, International Business, Sports Management, and Legal Studies (only for current Ave Law students), which consists of eight courses for 32 credit hours that can be completed in as little as 12-16 months. Within these eight total courses, five courses will be required (20 credit hours) and three courses will be electives in your respective area of concentration (12 credit hours).

Our program allows students the opportunity to explore fundamental business skills in areas including accounting, finance, economics, marketing, and business management.

Available Concentrations

Accounting

The MBA Concentration in Accounting provides students the opportunity to advance their knowledge of accounting, while obtaining a graduate level degree. This concentration is perfect for those with an undergraduate degree in accounting because upon successful completion, you will have all the necessary credit requirements for CPA certification. The online platform allows you to simultaneously study and work full time. Along with the five required courses, you will need to take three out of the four accounting electives listed below:

  • ACCT 510: Advanced Accounting
  • ACCT 530: Government & Not for profit Accounting
  • ACCT 540: International Accounting
  • ACCT 599: Accounting Internship

Communications

The MBA Concentration in Communications provides students the opportunity to develop skills that will sharpen their ability to listen, interpret, write, and speak. Concentrating in communications gives students a competitive advantage as they will be able to recognize the necessary information in our world today without getting misled by any potential shortcomings. This will allow them to become successful managers who are sensitive to the influence of communications technology within their organizations. Furthermore, upon successful completion, students will become more attentive to justice and human dignity through our faith-based curriculum. The online platform allows you to simultaneously study and work full time. Along with the five required courses, you will need to take the three communications electives listed below:

  • COMM 518: Business Writing Strategies
  • COMM 528: Corporate Narrative and Storytelling
  • COMM 538: Technology and Corporate Culture

International Business

The MBA Concentration in International Business provides students the opportunity to explore the global economies, while acquiring a stronger knowledge of the intricacies of our interconnected world. Students who decide to concentrate in International Business will delve into the international topics of finance, trade and investment, marketing, economics, and accounting. These international courses will prepare students to advance in their careers by offering them a stronger understanding of the impacts of global decisions, the language of globalization, and how globalization affects our daily lives. Additionally, our students will develop skills in business leadership that will help them successfully lead a diverse team that handles the complexities of their international work environment. The online platform allows you to simultaneously study and work full time. Along with the five required courses, you will need to take three of the six international business electives listed below:

  • ECON 510: International Finance and Open-Economy Macroeconomics
  • ECON 520: International Trade and Investment
  • ECON 530: Global Capital and National Institutions
  • MKTG 510: Global Marketing Strategy

Management

The MBA Concentration in Management provides students the opportunity to learn business expertise with an emphasis on leadership in management settings. This concentration explores the different management styles necessary for the competitive nature in our business world today. Upon successful completion, graduates will be well-versed in areas of ethics, operations, accounting, finance, marketing, and other business management practices. The online platform allows you to simultaneously study and work full time. Along with the five required courses, you will need to select three out of the eight elective courses listed below:

Sports Management

The MBA Concentration in Sports Management provides students the opportunity to combine their passion for sports with business and make a profession out of it. In this concentration, the current topics in Sports Management, legal aspects of athletics/fundamentals of sports law, and sports marketing and public relations will be studied. Students will attain both business and management skills in this program, preparing them for a successful career in athletics. The online platform allows you to simultaneously study and work full time. Along with the five required courses, you will need to select three out of the four elective courses listed below:

  • BUSN 510: Current Topics in Sports Management
  • BUSN 545: Legal Aspects of Athletic/Fundamentals of Sports Law
  • BUSN 599: Sports Management Internship
  • MKTG 520: Sports Marketing and Public Relations

Legal Studies

Ave Maria University’s online MBA program and Ave Maria School of Law have established a relationship that allows for direct entry admission of Ave Law students into AMU’s MBA program. Ave Law students will be considered for admission if they have or will have the following:

  • Completed one full year of law school
  • Earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for undergraduate degree(s)
  • Remained in good academic and disciplinary standing
  • Completed prerequisites in the following subjects: Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Statistics

Students will be awarded the degree of Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Legal Studies from Ave Maria University upon successful completion of 32 credits.

The following required courses must be completed through AMU’s online MBA (20 Credits – tuition remission scholarship available):

  • BUSN 503: Leadership, Ethics, & Management Theory
  • ACCT 520: Financial Statement Analysis
  • ECON 550: Economics and the Global Business Environment
  • FINC 550: Advanced Finance for Managers & Leaders
  • MKTG 550: Marketing Management

The following electives must be completed through Ave Law (12 Credits – must receive a C or higher):

  • Contracts I
  • Contracts 2
  • Commercial Law
  • Business Organizations

Admission Requirements

To be considered for Ave Maria’s online MBA program, you must have a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. You must also have proof of at least two of the following:

  • Undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or more
  • Post-graduate degree in another discipline
  • Three or more years of professional work experience with advancement in a particular competency or management responsibilities for budgets, projects, or personnel
  • A “B” grade or better in each of the following courses, or their undergraduate equivalents: ACCT 201, ECON 201, FINC 201, and STAT 230 (when enrolling with conditional admission as a non-degree-seeking student)
