Finance is the study of money, investments, financial transactions, financial instruments, and financial institutions. It encompasses the study of how individuals and organizations allocate resources among each other and over time. As such, it encompasses a broad range of topics, such as:
- Asset pricing
- Corporate finance
- Financial markets and institutions
- Financial risk management
- Mergers & Acquisitions
- Valuation

Finance at Ave Maria University
In an age where society has “created new idols [and] the worship of the ancient golden calf has returned in a new and ruthless guise in the idolatry of money” (Evangelii Gaudium), Ave Maria University’s Finance program stands apart by shaping leaders who are both highly skilled and mindful of the moral considerations in the field of finance.
Ave Maria University Finance students receive a rigorous foundation to stand out as highly competitive job candidates in the economy of tomorrow. Through experiences such as internships, Finance students build on their classroom knowledge and graduate ready to excel beyond their peers in this competitive career market.
The program is oriented especially toward three types of careers: Corporate Finance, Wealth Management, and Financial Institutions. Finance students can progress through their courses and prepare for examinations and certifications including:
- Securities Industry Essentials exam
- Life and Health, and Variable Annuities Insurance “215” exam
- Series 63 Securities Industry state law exam
- Series 65 Securities Industry law exam
- Chartered Financial Analyst exam
By equipping students for these industry recognized exams and certifications, AMU finance students enter the workforce at a level above their peers at other universities – as well as with a morally-centered approach to finance that recognizes the real, human, and personal impact of their work.
