A Message from the Vice President of Enrollment

Dear Parents,

I hope to see you at Ave Maria University this August. This is my last email before then. So, could I ask for 5 minutes?

Our commencement speaker, Michael Knowles from The Daily Wire, just told our largest graduating class that their job is not to change the world. Instead, our graduates are called to cooperate with God for the sake of their salvation.

Cooperating with God is a decision. You get to decide. The most important decisions in the world are always the ones you choose. Picking a university is one such choice.

You’ve spent the last year speaking with universities: weighing the education, culture, and values. And I’ve spent the last year speaking with parents and students about the value of AMU. So, if you’re still on the fence, I’d like to lay out some higher-education, non-negotiables, in my opinion at least.

  1. Authentically Catholic: If a Catholic university has programs at odds with your faith, then that school is not authentically Catholic. If a secular university is antagonist to your faith, then expect that mentality to diminish everything at that university. Pick a truly Catholic university.
  2. Integral Academics: Pick a university with a full spectrum of majors led by faculty you can trust.
  3. Innovative: The economy is changing rapidly, and a university must be nimble enough to adapt. Why? An education must deliver a return on your investment. If a school isn’t willing or able to adapt while also conserving the truth, then the durability of your investment is at risk. Innovation matters.
  4. Culture of Excellence: If you visit a university and you’re not impressed with the students, then the culture of that university is at risk. Pick a university with students you’d be proud to call your own. Culture matters.

You don’t have to choose between being faithful, smart, innovative, and excellent at AMU. If AMU is already your choice – thank you! If you and your student are still deciding – let’s talk! Either way, I encourage you to choose a university where your child can have it all.

Best,

Daniel Schreck, VP Enrollment
