Hittinger speaks at convocation
February 6, 2007

hittingerAve Maria University formally opened the Spring 2007 semester Jan. 31 with its Formal Academic Convocation. Dr. Russell Hittinger, a widely published author and renowned scholar, was the convocation's featured speaker, presenting "Are Societies Real Persons?"

Hittinger is the William K. Warren Professor of Catholic Studies in the department of religion and philosophy at the University of Tulsa, as well as Research Professor of Law. He also teaches and directs dissertations at the Pontifical University Regina Apostolorum in Rome.

"The greatest minds of the Church made no distinction between a life lived under God and the life of the mind," said AMU President Nicholas J. Healy during his welcoming remarks. "Dr. Hittinger has done tremendous work in that same vein."

Each semester's academic convocation is an opportunity for the AMU community to come together and examine an important intellectual question, according to university administrators; faculty members from different disciplines are able to lend their unique perspectives to the larger pursuit of truth the AMU curriculum embodies.
