Hurricane Matthew Update – Thursday, October 7, 2016, 9:00 a.m.
As of 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 6th, our tropical storm warning was lifted. Collier County did not receive any significant impacts from rain or wind overnight and shut down their Emergency Operations Center around 1 a.m. this morning. Classes will resume as scheduled on Friday and all weekend activities will run as expected.
Hurricane Matthew Update – Thursday, October 6, 2016, 3:30 p.m.
Bands of Hurricane Matthew will continue to bring intermittent periods of heavy rain and winds for the remainder of the afternoon and into the evening.
Classes are canceled today beginning at 3:40pm as well as those canceled earlier today. The Library will close at 4pm. Student Affairs will notify students on the location of the Theology on Tap program and the dining hall services hours this evening.
Classes will resume as scheduled tomorrow morning unless circumstances warrant a change in plans. If they do, we will send out an announcement with new information. All students, faculty, administrators and staff should monitor their cell phones and emails for further university announcements, as well as the university web site.

The following events have been cancelled tonight:

- Strategic Planning Meeting 4:00 pm – POSTPONED
- Weekly Shopping Trip to Naples 5:45 pm– CANCELLED
- Study Abroad Info Meeting 6:30 pm – POSTPONED
- Debate Club Meeting 7:30 pm – CANCELLED
- Open Mic Night after TOT – CANCELLED
- MTP Evening Soccer School Tutoring Activity – CANCELLED
- MTP Friday Morning Soup Kitchen – CANCELLED
The following events will run as expected tonight (with changes):
- Theology on Tap at 8:00 pm.
- “Ave’s Got Talent” Rehearsal – moved to 6:00 pm
- Household Week Events tonight:
- St. Josemaria Escriva Party – Daughters of God – 8:00 PM John Paul II Lobby.

The following closing announcements have been made for tonight:
- The Canizaro Library will be closing at 5:30 pm
- The AMU Campus Store will be closing at 5:00 pm
- The Gyrene Café will be closing at 9:30 pm
- Cafeteria late night swipe – CANCELLED
- The Adoration Chapel will close the Tabernacle doors at 6:00 pm today and resume tomorrow at 1:00 pm. Any scheduled adorers are released from obligation during these hours.
Pending a major change in storm conditions, all classes and activities (unless mentioned otherwise), will resume as normal on Friday. We expect to have this weekend’s Open House and Parents’ Weekend events run as scheduled.
The Ave Maria University Emergency Management Team continues to monitor the development of Hurricane Matthew and its potential impact upon the University and its operations. As necessary, the University will inform students and employees of precautions that need to be taken through this update page, the AMU Alert system, emails, text or voicemail messages, or in-person instructions.
The projected storm track continues to indicate that the effect of Hurricane Matthew on the University will be relatively moderate. The University residential facilities have been designed to withstand hurricane force winds, and appropriate preparations have been made to provide food, water, and emergency power generation as necessary for on-campus residential students.

The Ave Maria University Emergency Management Team is closely monitoring the development of Hurricane Matthew and its potential impact upon Ave Maria University and its operations. As necessary, the University will inform students and employees of precautions that need to be taken through this update page, the AMU Alert system, emails, text or voicemail messages, or in-person instructions.
Based upon the current projected storm track, the University is planning to remain open with classes in session through the remainder of the week. However, in the event the forecast changes and dangerous conditions are expected, classes and other University events would be canceled. The University residential facilities have been designed to withstand hurricane force winds, and appropriate preparations have been made to provide food, water, and emergency power generation as necessary for on-campus residential students.

As Hurricane Matthew travels north, it is imperative that all members of the Ave Maria University community observe weather updates closely.
University operations are currently normal as we monitor Hurricane Matthew.
