DIRECTOR OF RESIDENCE LIFE
While attending Missouri State University for his bachelor’s degree, Ryan had a very deep “come-back” conversion to Christ, and spent the last two years of his undergraduate career volunteering at the school’s Catholic Campus Ministry. He then served as an on-campus missionary with the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) for two years, discipling students and leading Bible studies, after which he entered the seminary, where he stayed for two and a half years. It was in the seminary in St. Paul, MN, that the Lord worked wonders in his life, and instead of calling him onto priesthood, gave him the call to marriage. So he left the seminary and moved to Ohio to finish his Master’s degree in Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville, where he graduated in 2018.
While at Franciscan, Ryan continued his intellectual and spiritual formation and eventually met his wife, whom he married in 2017 (the Welch’s have one child, as of 2020). That same year, Ryan started to work as an Online Enrollment Counselor at Franciscan. He is extremely honored and grateful to have walked alongside both online and on-campus students as they followed God’s will for their lives. In 2020, Ryan began his work at Ave Maria University as the Director of Residence Life. The Blessed Virgin Mary has played a huge role in Ryan’s conversion story and ongoing conversions, and he couldn’t be happier to work at Our Lady’s university.
