The process by which a student with disabilities can access the aid programs offered by the University is detailed below. Documentation Documentation of the disability must be submitted along with the “Request for Accommodations” form to the Adaptive Services Office (ASO) two weeks prior to the start of classes. It is the responsibility of each student with a disability to make his or her needs known at the start of the semester and to provide appropriate documentation in order for the University to help meet the needs for the following types of support: Note takers Extended time on tests (time and a half) Isolated testing environment Readers for tests Alternative format of Text Learning lab with adaptive technology, ie. Kurzweil 3000 Ability to record lectures Instruction in study strategies Confidential interview and record management Counselor assistance to facilitate the provision of applicable accommodations The University policy on accommodations and the necessary forms and guidelines can be found at the Policy and Documentation. Meeting with a Counselor Students requesting services to aid their personal disability must meet with the ASO Counselor within the first two weeks of the semester. Accordingly, Ave Maria University will adhere to all applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines with respect to providing reasonable physical and academic accommodations for the purpose of affording equal access and opportunity to qualified individuals with a documented disability. This meeting is crucial because each student’s accommodations are prepared on an individual and flexible basis, to be provided in a timely and cost-effective manner.
