Dec 01 2023 Frisbee Season Recap AMU Ultimate Frisbee team delivered a solid performance against the University of Miami on Saturday, concluding their preseason with a commendable 7-0 record. In their second game against NSU, AMU’s defense stood out, causing multiple turnovers and securing a victory of 14-2. Despite being a young team with only two seniors, Ave Maria’s ultimate frisbee squad has quickly embraced both offensive and defensive strategies. A highlight of the preseason has been the team’s effective communication on offense. We’re looking forward to watching their regular season this spring! Dec 01 2023 Volleyball Season Recap The AMU Volleyball team finished its 2023 season with a record of 11-18. This season was significantly impacted by their newest players, ten of whom played more than 80 sets. Zelie Kessler was honored by the Sun Conference on Wednesday, earning Second-Team All-Sun Conference recognition. Kessler led AMU with 2.24 kills per set, racking up 199 kills over 24 matches, and contributing 46 digs and 29 blocks. She was also one of AMU’s most efficient attackers, ending as one of just two Gyrenes with a hitting percentage of .200 or above. We can’t wait to see many of these players return to the court for AMU’s beach volleyball season this spring! Dec 01 2023 Football Season Recap Gyrene football wrapped the 2023 season with a 4-6 record, including two conference wins. Six AMU football players were honored by the Sun Conference as All-Conference. Bryan Stiemke received the Sun Conference’s “Back of the Year” award and was recognized as a First-Team All-Sun Conference honoree with Willie Jackson and Joshua Jenkins. Dray’sun Bonney, Connor Jewel, and Shane O’Brien were honored as Second-Team All-SUN selections. Stiemke ran for a school record of 1304 yards across nine games. His 144.9 yards per game currently ranks first in the nation within the NAIA, and within the top ten nationally, regardless of affiliation or division. We’re excited to see our Gyrenes hit the field again next year! Nov 16 2023 Men’s Basketball The AMU Men’s Basketball team kept their undefeated record during Tuesday’s home opener, beating the Johnson Suns 102-68. Scoring 62 points in the second half, it was the first time since 2019 that AMU put up 60 or more in a single frame. Jack Watkins led the team with 23 points, joined by Michael Klekas, Mark Blaszczyk, Jaylen White, and Jai White in the double-figures club. With this game, AMU has a 6-0 record. Their average of 98 points per game is the fourth most points per game in the country, and first among teams who have played five or more games. Go Gyrenes! < BACK TO WEEKLY RECAP

Nov 13 2023 Rescue Project: Episode 9 The last episode of the Rescue Project was welcomed by special guest, Father John Riccardo, who presented in person. In this final episode, “Getting Clarity on the Mission”, Fr. Riccardo broke down six answers to the question “What are we supposed to be doing with our lives right now?” It was a great opportunity for our students to enjoy a night of community and learn from Fr. Nov 11 2023 Women’s Rugby The AMU Women’s Rugby team had their first game this weekend! The Maidens played in a 7s tournament with the University of Miami (UM) and won their very first game. This is the first competitive season for the Maidens since 2019, led by club founder and alumna Shelby Mayer (’20). It was an exciting game and a great matchup with UM. Nov 11 2023 Drama Club Performance The AMU Drama Club performed its fall production, Murder on the Orient Express, this weekend. One of Agatha Christie’s most iconic mysteries, this story portrays a world-renowned detective, Hercule Poirot, who finds himself unexpectedly entangled in a web of deception and murder. The Drama Club performed the play multiple times over the weekend for our students and the Ave Maria community. We cannot wait to see the musical this spring! < BACK TO WEEKLY RECAP
