AMU has joined the ranks of elite universities and colleges by adding the AMU Equestrian Team to its list of club athletic teams. Started by AMU alumna Katie O’Hare, owner of The Stable Life, and Maggie Stutzman, Team President and a Theology major hailing from South Carolina, the AMU Equestrian Club Team is the only AMU athletic group that competes against Division I schools. The “Eq Team” is a club sport that brings riders of all skill levels together and teaches them teamwork and horsemanship as well as the virtues of courage, fortitude, humility, and patience in an encouraging, competitive environment. Coached by Katie O’Hare, the team trains and competes in both English and Western-riding disciplines at twelve different shows per semester throughout Florida and Georgia. The team welcomes all types of riders, from seasoned veterans to those who have never seen an animal with four legs. Practice sessions consist of two team meets per week plus, one-on-one lessons with Coach O’Hare. Competitions span weekends throughout both the Fall and Spring Semesters. Currently, the team consists of thirteen members and is growing steadily. Through the Spring 2016 semester, six girls competed with a 96% placing rate. The entire team will be eligible to compete during the 2016-2017 school year.
