Dr. Walter Nicholson

Dr. Walter Nicholson

visiting professor of economics

Dr. Walter Nicholson collaborates with the Economics Department as Visiting Professor in the Spring semesters. Dr. Nicholson obtained his BA from Williams College in 1964 and his Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1970. In addition to currently holding an endowed chair at Amherst College (where he has taught since 1968), he has held visiting positions at UC Berkeley and Kyoto, Japan. He has published three books (including Microeconomic Theory: Basic Principles and Extensions, 9th edition and Intermediate Microeconomics and Its Application, 10th edition) and over thirty articles. In addition to this and to a large number of invited papers and testimony, Dr. Nicholson founded, directed, and does research at Mathematica Policy Research Inc. and served as Chair of the Board of Examiners, Graduate Record Examination in Economics.
