Dr. Paula Castagnet

Paula Castagnet, a native Argentinian, comes to Ave Maria University after spending the last two years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Therapeutics, University of North Dakota. Dr. Castagnet studied at the Universidad Nacional del Sur in Argentina where she received a B.A. in Chemistry and an M.S and Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Since 1998 she has been a member of Research Career of the Argentine National Research Council (CONICET) and under their auspices she has participated in numerous research projects. In her future research she will study the metabolism of polyunsaturated lipids in the retina and the brain. By elucidating the biological functions of these lipids, including their mechanism of transport and metabolism, these studies should provide new insights into the biological role of lipids in normal cell function and their involvement in aging, injury and disease processes.
