Bishop Dewane visits AMU
October 13, 2006
Bishop Frank J. Dewane, coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Venice, made his first visit to Ave Maria University's interim campus in Naples, Oct. 13.
Dewane, who was ordained coadjutor in July, presided over the university's noon Mass and had lunch with members of the AMU pre-theologate program. He also took the time to visit the site of the university's permanent campus with AMU President Nicholas Healy and Chancellor Thomas Monaghan.
During the bishop's Mass, several members of the AMU theology department as well as Healy and Monaghan took an oath of fidelity to the Catholic Magisterium, pledging to "preserve the Deposit of Faith in its entirety" as members of the university community.
"It is always a great honor to receive a visit from the bishop," Healy said. "The university looks forward to strengthening a friendship with Bishop Dewane and watching that friendship bear fruit."
