Five Sisters Win First Place at N Magazine's Annual Creative Arts Awards
for Rendition of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B"
AVE MARIA, Fla. - Five sisters, four of which are current Ave Maria University students, recently won first prize in the performing arts category at this year's Enny Awards, an annual creative arts award program sponsored by N Magazine.
Kathleen, Patricia, Annie, Maureen and Mary Pauline Moran - affectionately known on AMU's campus as simply "the Moran sisters" - were presented with the award for their rendition of the iconic World War II song Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B. Originally recorded by the "Andrews Sisters," the song was a fitting selection for the Moran sisters.
"We've been singing together for a long time, and a few years ago we really became interested in the music from the 1940s," said Annie Moran, who is entering her junior year at AMU. "This song has always been a favorite of ours, and we have a lot of fun performing it."
Annie added that she and her sisters were excited and humbled by the recognition. "It was definitely a surprise and we were very thrilled because the competition was incredible. It was very much an honor."
Four of the sisters will all be part of the first student body to take classes at AMU's permanent campus in Ave Maria, Fla. Patricia, like Annie, will be entering her junior year at the end of August, Kathleen will be entering her senior year and Maureen is an incoming freshman. The fifth and oldest sister, Mary Pauline, is a graduate of St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind.
