Former Ave Maria University Chairman Receives Honorary Degree

AVE MARIA, Fla. - Robert "Bob" Thomas will receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Ave Maria University (AMU) during a noon Mass on August 27, which is the university's first day of classes at its new, permanent campus in Ave Maria, Fla. Thomas is the former chairman of the board of trustees at AMU.
Thomas was instrumental in the university's development, succeeding founding chairman Thomas S. Monaghan in 2004, and serving as chairman through 2006. He continued to serve as a general trustee from 2006-2007. It is with great respect and appreciation that Ave Maria University will confer him with this degree.
In addition to his service at AMU, Thomas has held the positions of trustee at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and chairman of the board of trustees at the University of Tampa. Aside from his involvement in education, Thomas is an accomplished business executive with an extensive history in agricultural, financial and industrial business and development.
He has held a number of public service positions, including serving as a past chairman of the Florida Council of 100 and co-chairman of the Tampa Biracial Committee. For ten years Thomas also produced a radio program, "Appreciating the Bible," on WBVM-FM in Tampa, Fla.
