Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Martinez is Assistant Professor of Economics and Chairman of the Department. He has been in the Economics Department since its beginning and has taught twelve different courses at Ave Maria University, particularly in the areas of macroeconomics, international economics, and development economics. His two favorite courses to teach are Principles of Macroeconomics and Catholic Social Teaching. His goal in teaching is for one of his students to become, one day, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. He wrote his dissertation and has published papers on macroeconomic and financial crises in Latin America, particularly the 1999 economic collapse in Ecuador, his native country. Because financial crises are always brewing in emerging markets, and because their causes are complex and deep, his economic research is very relevant and is inextricably intermingled with politics and ethics. Before Ave Maria University, he worked at the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C. and the Ministry of Government in Ecuador.
