Ernesto Quintero received a B.S. in Marine Biology from California State University, Long Beach, and his Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Maryland, College Park. He has served as Assistant Professor, Research Associate and Director of Graduate Studies at the Universidad Santa Maria La Antigua. Most recently, Dr. Quintero was a regular faculty member at Florida State University-Panama Branch. Dr. Quintero’s research interests focus on the microbial ecology of heterotropic bacteria in aquatic environments. This research will center on methods for the improvement of water quality and the production of bioactive secondary metabolites by marine/estuarine bacteria as possible new therapeutic agents. Dr. Quintero has taught extensively in the areas of biology, microbiology and ecology. He is a co- author of numerous journal articles and book chapters.
