Curriculum Vitae

Daniel J. Nodes, Ph.D., is Professor of Classics and Early Christian Literature and Chairman of the Department . Before coming to Ave Maria University Dr. Nodes was Professor of Classics and Humanities at Immaculate Conception Seminary, Director of Graduate Liberal Studies at Hamline University, and Chairman of Modern and Classical Languages at Franciscan University of Steubenville. Focusing on places where Greek and Roman culture intersects with Christianity and biblical tradition, he teaches and publishes on a broad range of subjects from the patristic and Byzantine periods to the Italian Renaissance. He has been a research fellow of the National Endowment for the Humanities and is the author of Doctrine and Exegesis in Latin Biblical Poetry and editor the biblical epic of St. Avitus of Vienne.

  • He holds the degrees of B.A. from St. Peter's College, M.A. from the University of New Hampshire, and Ph.D. from the University of Toronto.
  • He is currently editing the sixteenth-century Sentences commentary of Giles of Viterbo, O.E.S.A.
  • His forthcoming publications include a study of St. Maximus the Confessor's explication of The Lord's Prayer for St. Vladimir's Theological Quarterly, and an essay on Giles of Viterbo's application of platonic myth to the theology of divine generation for Augustianiana.
  • He is currently writing on Giles of Viterbo and Augustine's Psalmus contra partem Donati for The Oxford Guide to the Historical Reception of Augustine.
  • He is teaching a Latin seminar on the Parable of the Good Samaritan in the Fathers of the Church.
