Reverend R. John Neuhaus

Reverend R. John Neuhaus

Father Richard John Neuhaus is acclaimed as one of the foremost authorities on the role of religion in the contemporary world and is President of The Institute on Religion and Public Life, a nonpartisan inter¬religious research and education institute in New York City. He is editor-in-chief of the Institute's publication, First Things: A Monthly Journal of Religion, Culture, and Public Life. Among his best known books are Freedom for Ministry, The Naked Public Square: Religion and Democracy in America, The Catholic Moment: The Paradox of the Church in the Postmodern World, and, with Rabbi Leon Klenicki, Believing Today: Jew and Christian in Conversation. In 1995, he edited with Charles Colson, Evangelicals & Catholics Together: Toward A Common Mission (Word). Perennial popular favorites are Death on a Friday Afternoon: Meditations on the Last Words of Jesus From the Cross and As I Lay Dying: Meditations upon Returning. His most recent book is Catholic Matters: Confusion, Controversy, and the Splendor of Truth, which was published by Basic Books in February, 2006. As a Lutheran clergyman, he was for seventeen years senior pastor of a low-income Black parish in Brooklyn, New York. He has played a leadership role in organiza¬tions deal¬ing with civil rights, international justice, and ecumenism. Neuhaus' work has been the subject of feature articles in popular and scholarly publi¬cations both here and abroad, and he has been the recipient of numer¬ous hon¬ors from universities and other institu¬tions, including the John Paul II Award for Religious Freedom. He has held presidential appointments in the Carter, Reagan, and first Bush administra¬tions. In a survey of na¬tional leader¬ship, U.S. News and World Report named Father Neuhaus one of 32 "most influential intellectuals in America." Time Magazine, in a 2005 cover story, named Fr. Neuhaus one of the most influential religious leaders in America. Born in Canada, Neuhaus received his formal education in Ontario and in the United States and is a graduate of Concordia Theological Seminary, St Louis, Missouri. In 1991 he was ordained a priest in the Archdiocese of New York by the late Cardinal John O’Connor.

Fred Pezeshkan

Fred Pezeshkan

Fred Pezeshkan is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kraft Construction Company, Inc. and has lived in Southwest Florida for 25 years. He is a graduate of Ohio State University with a degree in civil engineering. Kraft Construction serves the West Coast of Florida from Marco Island to the Panhandle, concentrating on institutional, medical, government and high rise construction. Mr. Pezeshkan is very active in the community and has served on or chaired many civic and charitable boards. His greatest passion in life is his commitment to providing an education to people of all ages. For the past five years, Mr. Pezeshkan has co-chaired the Annual Celebration of Reading, which benefits the Bush Family Literacy Initiative. He is the past-Chair of the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Foundation Board and chairs the Community School of Naples Advisory Board. He was instrumental in the establishment of the FGCU Real Estate Development MBA program and under his leadership Kraft Construction has partnered with Shadowlawn Elementary School under the PASS program (Partnership to Advance School Success) and the Florida Council for Educational Change, on which he serves. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Curry College, Milton, MA. In 2005, Mr. Pezeshkan was awarded the LIFE Award (Leadership in Fostering Education) from Edison College and, in 2006; he was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in New York from the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations. Both of these awards were given in recognition of Mr. Pezeshkan’s dedication and contribution to education.

Dr. Ursula Pfahl

Dr. Ursula Pfahl

Dr. Pfahl has been associated with Yamron Jewelers since 1997, serving as Chief Operating Officer for the past two years. Since arriving in Naples ten years ago, Dr. Pfahl has held Board of Director positions with the following area organizations: FOCUS, Greater Naples Citizens’ Association, United Way of Collier County, Economic Development Council, Southwest Florida Workforce Development, Seacrest Country Day School and the Neighborhood Health Clinic. She has served on task forces and advisory boards of the Collier County Public Schools, Community Foundation of Collier County, Fun Time Early Childhood Education Academy and the CIVIC initiative of the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce. Prior to coming to Naples, Dr. Pfahl completed a 29 year career in higher education. This includes 22 years of service to Rockhurst University in Kansas City, MO in instruction, general university administration, institutional advancement and Trustee and Regent services.

Cristina Poo

Cristina Poo

Cristina Poo was born in Cuba. When she was 11 years old, she was forced to leave because of Fidel Castro's communist regime. She was sent to study in New York City where she graduated from the Convent of the Sacred Heart. She attended the College of Mt. St. Vincent in Riverdale, New York and graduated from the University of Miami, Florida. She is married to Ramon Poo, CEO of Altira Inc. and they have 3 children. She is very interested in girls' education, specifically Catholic girls education. She has been a volunteer for a long time at the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami where both her daughters graduated. She was a member of the Board of Trustees at Carrollton for 9 years and then elected Chair of the Board. Even though that period of service is now ended she continues to be involved in several committees. Cristina and Ramon have been members of the Legatus Miami chapter since its beginning in 1998."

Thomas Prince

Thomas Prince

Mr. Prince received his BBA from Stetson University in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army as an aviator from 1967-1971. He received his M.B.A. from Georgia Southern University in 1971 and joined Merrill Lynch in Orlando. In 1972 he joined the fledgling Days Inns Corporation and rose to Executive Vice President. When Days Inns was sold in 1984, he and Mr. Bob Bush formed Prince-Bush Investments. They now own and operate hotels in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina as well as many investments in restaurants, real estate and banking. Mr. Prince has served as a Trustee of Stetson, University, as an advisor to the Mission Helpers of the Sacred Heart and President of Marywood Senior Community. He presently serves on the Board of The Irish College of Rome, The Board of Florida Capital Bank and is on the Finance Committee of The Church of The Annunciation in Altamonte Springs, Florida.
