Students should audition during one of the audition weekends held each academic year, unless permission for an audition outside of these dates is granted by the Music Department.
Music Audition Weekends for students who intend to enter the program in Fall 2013:
- Nov. 9-11, 2012
- Feb. 8-10, 2013
- April 5-7, 2013
The Music Audition Weekends run Friday through Sunday, allowing the student to see the campus and music department in action, attend classes, and meet other students and faculty. Students are not required to stay the entire weekend, although it is certainly to be recommended, but they must plan to be on campus all day on the Saturday of the weekend, since this is the day on which the auditions themselves take place.
Students who plan to stay overnight on campus for a Music Audition Weekend should contact the Admissions Office to arrange for housing and meals during their visit.
Students must submit the online audition application form at least 2 weeks prior to intended audition date. Details of the student's audition schedule are sent via email to the student after the application form has been received.

Tentative Audition Weekend Schedule:
Friday (attendance optional, but strongly encouraged):
- Visit/tour of campus
- Attend music and other classes at AMU
- Meet current music students and other students
Saturday (full day attendance required):
- Individual interviews with music department faculty
- Audition performances
- Sight reading evaluations
- Diagnostic evaluations in music theory and aural skills
- University Open House events (applicable on select weekends only)
