June McCann - Volunteer

June McCann became a library volunteer in October 2008. June has a BA degree in English from the College of New Rochelle, an all girls Ursuline school just outside New York City. Mother of four and grandmother to twelve, she and husband John (an attorney) retired to Marco Island in 2001 and were among the very first to close on their home in Del Webb here at Ave Maria in 2007. A voracious reader, June has a background in editing and writing. Her first job was as “Dear Abby” for SEVENTEEN Magazine in New York—her sixteen years of Catholic education, she says, was the recipe for winning the job. Teens in the early 1960’s –as is the case now –needed a sound moral approach to help them through the crises in their young lives. June still is a huge consumer of current fiction and biography and is active in book clubs, a creative writers’ group and as a volunteer in a number of community and Church based organizations—when she is not playing golf or housekeeping!
