HOW ARE HOUSING ASSIGNMENTS MADE?
Primary consideration is given to the date in which the Office of Student Life receives all of the following: the housing deposit roommate preference form, the housing contract, and the Immunization form. Secondary consideration is given to roommate requests, and lastly, residence hall/room requests. TOP

CAN I CHANGE ROOMMATES IF I AM NOT GETTING ALONG WITH MY ASSIGNED ROOMMATE?
Living in a Residence Hall brings some challenges for many students. If there are roommate conflicts, we encourage the residents to communicate with each other and their Resident Assistants and/or Residence Director to resolve the situations. However, if a resident feels it necessary to change rooms he/she may have the opportunity do so ONLY at the end of semester (prior to Christmas break) or on an EMERGENCY basis only. TOP

WHAT IF I WANT TO BE ON THE UNIVERSITY INSURANCE PLAN?
Easy. All you have to do is sign the Mandatory Insurance Waiver Form! $1010.00 per year will be added to your bill. When you receive your student life packet an insurance brochure will be included. Simply detach the card on the back of the brochure, write your name on it, and carry it with you. For any additional information about our insurance policy please go to Ave Maria Student Health Plan. WHAT IF I ALREADY HAVE HEALTH INSURANCE?
To opt out of the University sponsored insurance plan, you must submit to the Office of Student Life a current copy of the front and back of your insurance provider along with a completed waiver form, which will included in your student life packet. TOP

WHAT IS THE POLICY FOR STUDENTS WISHING TO LIVE OFF CAMPUS?
The Residential Housing Contract is binding for the entire academic year. Ave Maria University also has a residency requirement which states that "full-time students are required to live on campus, unless they are living at home with their parents/guardians". In special circumstances, exceptions to this policy may be granted. Please see the housing exemption policy for more information. TOP

WHAT TYPES OF ROOMS ARE AVAILABLE?
We have 2 options: the majority of the residential rooms are standard rooms, which house 3 students. Each room has a bathroom for the residents. The other option is a suite. It is either a 4 bedroom or 2 bedroom suite with a large living area. The suites are shared among 8 students. Each suite has 2 bathrooms. TOP

WHAT ITEMS ARE SUPPLIED IN THE ROOM?
Each room is furnished with twin size bed, chairs, and desks. Each person will share book case(s) with others in the room. For more information about what is supplied or what to bring please click here: What to Bring.TOP

CAN I ARRIVE BEFORE THE DESIGNATED TIME OR STAY PAST MY LAST FINAL EXAM?
Early arrivals are NOT PERMITTED due to staff training and preparations for the new students. Late departures are also NOT PERMITTED due to the maintenance preparations needed for the upcoming semester. TOP

ARE RESIDENCE HALLS CLOSED OVER FALL, THANKSGIVING, CHRISTMAS, AND SPRING BREAKS?
Residence Halls are open for Fall Break, Thanksgiving Break, and Spring Break with no additional fees.
Residence Halls are closed during Christmas Break and all residents must vacate the premises during this break. TOP

WHAT IS THE UNIVERSITY VISITOR POLICY?
The University policy states that no visitors under the age of 13 are allowed to spend the night. If you wish to have a visitor spend the night you must get approval from your roommates and the Residence Director by filling out the appropriate forms at least 24 hours in advance. The visitor may not stay longer than 3 days unless given explicit permission from the Director of Residence Life. When the University is officially closed (Thanksgiving and Christmas) and during Final Exams there are no visitors allowed to stay in the halls. TOP

CAN I SEND MY BELONGINGS TO THE UNIVERSITY BEFORE I ARRIVE?
The University accepts packages one week before your arrival and will not accept any prior to that. The boxes will be placed in the mail room or common room and you will have to collect your boxes and carry them to your room from that location. CAN I ACCESS THE INTERNET FROM MY RESIDENCE HALL ROOM?
Yes, the entire campus is outfitted for wireless internet. TOP

CAN I MAKE LONG DISTANCE CALLS FROM THE RESIDENCE HALLS?
Long distance calls can be made using a calling card. TOP

WHAT DOES THE RESIDENCE HALL STAFF DO?
Residence Director (RD)
Residence Directors are professional, full-time, live-in staff who are responsible for managing the Residence Hall facilities, supervising the Hall Staff, facilitating the good order of the residential environment and fostering personal and community development.
Resident Assistants (RA)
Resident Assistants are students who have been specially selected and trained to work with the Residence Directors in carrying out their duties. They provide peer leadership, support and regular supervision of the residents in their building. TOP

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT MY HOUSING ASSIGNMENT AND WHO MY ROOMMATE IS?
Housing assignments begin to be mailed at the end of June and continue to be mailed throughout the summer until all are sent. Housing deposits are nonrefundable after June 1.

WHO WILL BE THERE TO HELP ME CHECK IN?
Resident Assistants, informally known as "RA's", help freshman to adjust to university life. These upper-class students have been selected and trained to be part of the Student Life staff. Moreover, the Orientation staff, also comprised of upper-class students, will help new residents with the move-in process. TOP

ARE THERE LAUNDRY ROOMS IN THE RESIDENCE HALLS?
Washing machines and dryers are located within each residence hall and are free for the residents of the building. TOP

MAY I BRING MY BICYCLE TO SCHOOL WITH ME?
Yes. Bikes are allowed in rooms but they cannot be kept in the residence hall stairwells for fire and safety reasons. We do have outdoor racks, but make sure you bring a lock for your bicycle. Rollerblading and skateboarding are permitted on campus. TOP

HOW BIG CAN MY REFRIGERATOR BE IN MY ROOM?
No larger than 3.6 cubic feet. TOP

WILL I HAVE A TELEPHONE IN MY ROOM?
Yes each room has a telephone that is connected with the Ave Maria server therefore it also has a voicemail already programmed that may be personalized. TOP

CAN I BRING MY PETS?
No pets, except fish, are allowed in any residence hall. TOP

HOW FAR IS AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY FROM THE BEACH?
Ave Maria University is located approximately 25 miles from the beach. TOP

ARE FRESHMEN ALLOWED TO HAVE CARS ON CAMPUS?
No, the university has limited parking spaces available and priority is given to upperclass students. Exemptions may be made and all requests should be made through either the Security Department or the Office of Student Life. TOP

IS THERE PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WITHOUT CARS?
Yes. The local public transit (Collier Area Transit...C.A.T) makes regularly scheduled stops at the street right next to the University entrance and will take you to a number of different spots in Naples. (You may request a schedule of the stops and the times at the Office of Student Life). TOP

WHAT KINDS OF SPIRITUAL ACTIVITIES ARE THERE ON CAMPUS?
Besides opportunities for the sacraments, please see Spiritual Formation. Students initiate many spiritual activities including, gathering daily to pray the "walking rosary" at 9:00pm, morning and evening prayer, and other prayers proper to the Church. Retreats are also offered a few times throughout the semester. TOP
