Severe Weather Information

Currently, Hurricane Irene is headed on a more easterly track with a projected landfall in the Carolinas. Ave Maria will only see remnants of wind and rain. AMU is still on schedule for orientation on Thursday, August 25th. We will continue to keep you updated until Irene passes Florida.

Ave Maria University plans to keep the New Student Orientation on schedule beginning on Thursday, August 25th, weather permitting.

For up to date information, please check our website for periodic updates and announcements. For information regarding local weather, please refer to the links provided at the bottom of this page. Students already on campus currently will be sheltered in place in the case of severe weather. The Emergency Management Team is closely monitoring the situation.

The risk of severe weather is surely present in Ave Maria. Located in southwest Florida, Ave Maria's hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 but the strongest storms come from mid-August to mid-October.

Hurricane Preparation

If there's a tropical storm watch or a hurricane watch, this means that there is a possibility that you will experience hurricane conditions within the next 36 hours. So stay alert and keep listening to the radio for more information.

Know if you live in an evacuation area.

Listen to your local radio stations to find out if a storm is coming. You can also listen to NOAA Weather Radio. You will also be told if you need to evacuate.
