Health Insurance Information
All full-time students and students residing on campus are arequired to be covered under a health insurance plan. Students who do not provide proof of coverage under an outside insurance plan are automatically added to the University-provided plan. The cost of University-provided insurance will be added to the student's bill. Further information concerning the University-provided plan is available in the Office of Student Life.
Medical Services
To provide our students with easily accessible health care, there is a medical clinic in the town center of Ave Maria. This clinic is within easy walking distance for our students. The clinic will provide routine check-ups and will also handle more serious, non-life threatening situations such as burn treatment, splinting, and digital X-rays. Students are encouraged to call to make an appointment, but walk-ins are welcome.

Procedure For Students to Use These Clinics:
(Note: In case of any medical emergencies students are urged to call 9-1-1)
- Call the clinic at the number & extension listed above and specify that you are an Ave Maria student who would like to schedule an appointment.
- Make sure they will accept your insurance. If they do not accept your insurance, you will need to pay up-front and then submit a claims form to your insurance company to be reimbursed. Ave Maria student insurance is accepted at the Marion E. Fether Clinic. For further information or assistance, please contact Student Life at 239-280-2540.
- Make your appointment for Tuesday, between 1:00-4:00 p.m. (if you're using our shuttle to the clinic)
- Inform the Office of Student Life (ext. 2540 or bridget.mullen@avemaria.edu) that you have scheduled an appointment, so that we can let the clinic know how many students will be coming in.
- *This is IMPERATIVE: if the clinic has not heard anything from us by Tuesday morning, they will assume we have no students coming in and will book our time slot for other patients.*
- Go to the Office of Student Life to pick up and fill out paperwork the clinic requires its patients to fill out.
- Fax that paperwork to the clinic at 239-658-3074. Students going to the clinic should meet at Student Life; the school van will leave PROMPTLY at 1:00 p.m.
Students who need to be treated at the Immokalee clinic on a regular basis:
- Must make an appointment with a doctor (steps 1-4) to establish care at the clinic.
- Must have their primary care-giver fax their medical records to the Immokalee clinic at the fax number listed above, so that the clinic can establish that student there as a regular patient.
- If the student wants to take advantage of our clinic runs he/she should schedule their regular appointments within the allotted times we offer (Tuesdays, 1:00-4:00 p.m.)
- If the student has his/her own means of transportation, he/she may schedule the appointments at another time during the week.
As always, in the event of an emergency, please dial 911. The closest hospital for emergency services is the NCH North Collier Hospital. The number is: (239) 552-7000.
